Some mid to late 1960s American cars used Holley four barrels instead of Carter or Rochester products. Two versions that were somewhat popular for the era were the 4150 and 4160. These are modular carbs and are basically two barrel carbs that have been merged together with one set of bores as primaries and a pair of bores as secondaries. The primaries operate over the entire engine range of operation while the secondaries are used when load and speed requires them.

You will encounter a couple of variations in 4150-4160 design. There are center and side fuel inlet versions of the 4150. The later era (1966 and up) 4150 will have a center inlet while earlier 4150s and 4160s used side fuel inlets. On some 1966 Ford V8s, a special version of the 4150 is used with a fuel external distributor tube and a clean air pick up  tube for the choke. The Ford HP unit is also side fuel inlet style.

There are some special adjusting tips provided for the high performance Ford 4150s which should be noted. Remember that the OEM unit numbers may not correspond with the rebuilder's tag. You should check the metal tags on the carb for identification first, then proceed to check the air horn number. Even then it's possible a rebuilder company may have switched internals, to fit as wide a variety of applications as possible. The tip off will often be the choke set up which is usually a Chevrolet style. After all these years of cars being restored, it isn't unusual to find a carb tag being swapped over to another unit to fool the casual observer at cruise nights. We won't go into how easy it is to mix and match one of these modular carbs as well!
